The Story I Wrote in My Head

It all started with one thought.

Just one.

Not a fact.

Not a conversation.

Not something that had actually happened.

Just... a thought.

A quiet little whisper that slipped into my mind.

"Maybe we're not on the same page anymore."

That one thought created a feeling.

The feeling grew stronger.

And then my mind did what all of our minds do.

It went looking for evidence.

It connected dots.

It filled in blanks.

It tried to explain the feeling by creating a story.

Before I knew it, I had written an entire movie.

In my movie...

Our dream was slipping away.

Nothing was ever going to change.

I was stuck.

Maybe I should just buy an RV and go live the adventure by myself.

It all felt incredibly real.

The fear was real.

The sadness was real.

The tears were real.

But here's what I realized later...

It wasn't the circumstances creating my suffering.

It was the story I'd built on top of them.

Fear Is a Creative Writer

I've been sitting with that ever since.

I don't think fear is trying to ruin our lives.

I think it's trying to protect us.

When uncertainty shows up...

Fear wants certainty.

When there are unanswered questions...

Fear fills in the blanks.

When there's silence...

Fear starts narrating.

It takes one thought...

Creates a feeling...

Then quietly volunteers to explain it.

Before we know it...

Fear has written an entire screenplay.

The hardest part?

We stop questioning the story.

We start living as if it's the Truth.

Then the Movie Stopped

Then something interrupted the movie.

A conversation.

Not a dramatic one.

Just an honest one.

In the middle of it, Doug looked at me and said,

"Michelle... I'm right here."

Then he smiled.

"If you ever wonder what page I'm on... ask me. We can have that conversation anytime."

Everything became quiet.

Not because every challenge disappeared.

Not because every question was answered.

But because Truth had finally been invited into the conversation.

And in that moment, I realized something I'll never forget.

Doug was speaking.

But the Voice I heard was much deeper.

The Voice that has been with me my entire life.

The Voice of the Power Within.

The Voice that whispers...

"I'm right here."

"I'm in this with you."

"You've got this."

Doug didn't create the Truth.

He reflected it.

The Truth had been with me all along.

I'd just been listening to fear instead.

The Forest Doesn't Rush to Conclusions

One of the reasons I love walking through the forest is because nature quietly reminds me of things I so easily forget.

Sometimes the fog rolls in.

You can barely see the trail ahead.

Visibility shrinks.

Everything feels uncertain.

But the forest doesn't panic.

The trees don't assume they've been abandoned.

The river doesn't stop flowing because it can't see around the bend.

Life keeps expressing itself.

Quietly.

Faithfully.

Patiently.

Maybe that's what Truth does too.

It doesn't compete with fear.

It simply waits...

Until we're willing to become still enough to hear it again.

Fear writes stories.

Truth writes futures.

The next time your mind starts writing a story...

Pause.

Before you believe it...

Invite Truth into the conversation.

The facts may be real.

The feelings may be real.

But neither of them gets the final word.

Get quiet.

Listen.

The Power Within has been speaking all along.

It whispers...

"I'm right here."

"I'm in this with you."

"You've got this."

Perhaps the story isn't the problem.

Perhaps we've simply been listening to the wrong narrator.
