The Sprout Is Not Behind

Yesterday, I was looking at one of the giant oak trees on our property.
These trees are enormous. Grounded. Strong. Fully themselves.
And scattered underneath them are acorns.
Tiny things.
Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.
And then there are the sprouts.
Those first tender shoots reaching out of the ground.
And I had this thought:
I would never look at that tiny sprout and say,
“What is wrong with you?”
“Why are you taking so long?”
“Why aren’t you bigger yet?”
“Look at that oak over there. Why don’t you look like that?”
That would be ridiculous.
Because I understand the nature of an oak tree.
I understand that the acorn carries the potential.
The sprout is not failing.
The sprout is becoming.
But We Do This to Ourselves All the Time
I know I do.
Especially in business.
I can look at where I am and think:
Why isn’t this growing faster?
Why don’t I have more clients yet?
Why am I not further along?
Why does this feel like it is taking so long?
And the irony is that I would never stand over a tiny oak sprout and criticize it for not being an eighty foot tree.
I would trust the process.
I would understand that something is happening.
Even if I cannot yet see the full expression of it.
The DreamBuilder Program teaches that the Law of Gestation means every dream has its own unique period of growth and development. Sometimes it looks like very little is happening in the visible world, even while a strong root structure is developing beneath the surface.
That stopped me.
Because maybe some of the seasons when we think nothing is happening are actually seasons of tremendous becoming.
The Acorn Does Not Question Its Potential
An acorn does not stand beneath an oak tree and wonder whether it has what it takes.
It does not compare itself to the tree.
It does not decide it is too late.
It does not question whether it deserves the sunlight.
It does not dig itself up every few days to see whether the roots are working.
It simply responds to Life.
Water.
Soil.
Light.
Time.
And the intelligence already within it.
There is something in that I want to remember.
Because when we are creating something new, we can become so focused on the visible result that we forget that growth is happening in ways we cannot yet measure.
The courage we are building.
The skills we are learning.
The relationships we are nurturing.
The awareness we are developing.
The identity we are growing into.
The roots.
DreamBuilder calls this Becoming, and it teaches that who we become in the process is part of the gift of building the dream.
Growth Has Its Own Timing
There is no failure in nature because nature is not comparing one stage of development to another.
The acorn is not wrong.
The sprout is not late.
The sapling is not inadequate.
The oak is not “better.”
They are expressions of the same Life at different stages.
And maybe that is a kinder way to look at ourselves.
Not as unfinished.
Not as behind.
Not as evidence that something has gone wrong.
But as alive.
Growing.
Developing.
Becoming.
That Does Not Mean We Do Nothing
Trusting the process is not the same as passivity.
We still tend the dream.
We still water it.
We still nourish it.
We still protect what matters.
We still take the inspired action step.
We still ask, What would I love?
We still move in the direction of the life we are creating.
DreamBuilder reminds us that even a small step can move energy and open the way for the next idea, resource, or opportunity.
But maybe we can take those steps without constantly standing over the sprout demanding evidence.
Maybe we can participate in the growth without attacking the pace.
What Are You Calling “Too Slow”?
Where in your life are you looking at a sprout and demanding an oak?
Your health?
Your relationship?
Your business?
Your finances?
Your confidence?
A dream you have only recently given yourself permission to want?
What if you stopped asking:
“Why am I not there yet?”
And asked instead:
What is growing here?
What has already changed?
What roots are getting stronger?
What do I know now that I did not know a year ago?
Who am I becoming?
The Oak Is Already in the Acorn
That may be my favorite part.
The acorn does not need to become worthy of being an oak.
The potential is already there.
Its work is to keep responding to Life.
And maybe ours is too.
To listen.
To tend.
To trust.
To act.
To stay connected to the Vision.
To keep one corner of our mind open to what is possible.
And to remember that visible size is not the measure of potential.
So the next time I catch myself looking at my business, my dream, or some part of my life and thinking,
Why is this taking so long?
I want to remember that tiny oak sprout.
I would never shame it.
I would never question its potential.
I would never call it behind.
I would see Life happening.
And I would trust what it is becoming.
Maybe we deserve to offer ourselves the same grace.
The sprout is not behind.
It is becoming.
