The Tapestry of Life

Oct 8
4 min read

Sometimes I think life is like looking at a tapestry from much too close.

We see one tiny section.

A few threads.

A little color.

One crossing.

One knot.

One place that makes no sense at all.

And because that is all we can see in the present moment, we start trying to decide what the whole picture means from that one tiny fragment.

We decide something has gone wrong.

We decide the pattern is off.

We decide the thread we are looking at is ugly, unnecessary, confusing, or out of place.

But what if our view is simply too small?

What if, in the day-to-day experience of being human, we are only ever seeing a pinprick of the whole?

A zoomed-in little patch of threads and color, while something far larger is being woven than we can currently understand?

We Only See a Tiny Piece

That is how life can feel sometimes.

We are standing in one hard conversation.

One delay.

One disappointment.

One season of uncertainty.

One prayer that feels unanswered.

One relationship that feels complicated.

One fear.

One longing.

One day that does not make sense.

And because that moment is the moment we are in, it can start to feel like it must explain everything.

We begin trying to interpret our whole life from one little section of the tapestry.

But one moment is not the whole picture.

One season is not the whole story.

One thread is not the whole design.

The Grand Weaver Sees What We Cannot

This is the part that brings me peace.

I believe there is a greater Intelligence at work.

God.

Spirit.

Life.

Source.

Infinite Intelligence.

Whatever name feels true to you.

I think of it as the Grand Weaver.

We see the thread.

The Grand Weaver sees the tapestry.

We see the one little place that feels tangled or unfinished.

The Grand Weaver sees the full masterpiece.

We see the color we do not understand.

The Grand Weaver sees why it belongs.

We see this chapter.

The Grand Weaver sees the whole arc.

And maybe that is why we do not always have to understand what we are standing in while we are standing in it.

Maybe our peace does not come from figuring out every thread.

Maybe it comes from remembering that we are not the only ones holding the loom.

There Is a Bigger Picture

I think this matters because so often we want clarity right now.

We want to know why this happened.

Where this is going.

What this means.

How this will work out.

How all of this could possibly fit together.

And sometimes there are no immediate answers.

Sometimes all we get is the next step.

The next breath.

The next act of courage.

The next moment of trust.

The next thread to tend.

That does not mean there is no pattern.

It does not mean there is no beauty.

It does not mean there is no larger picture.

It may simply mean that the picture is larger than what we can currently see.

Trust Does Not Mean Pretending

Trusting the Weaver does not mean pretending everything feels easy.

It does not mean bypassing grief, disappointment, confusion, or pain.

It does not mean calling every experience good.

It means choosing to believe that even what we do not yet understand can still belong.

That this moment may still be part of something beautiful.

That what feels unfinished may not be wrong.

That what feels random may not be random at all.

That what looks like one isolated thread may connect to something more meaningful than we can yet imagine.

Trusting the Weaver means we can stop demanding that the whole picture make sense from where we are standing.

What Is Ours To Do

If we are not here to see the entire tapestry all at once, then what is ours to do?

Tend the thread in front of us.

Take the next step.

Stay open.

Keep loving.

Keep listening.

Keep showing up.

Keep becoming.

Keep asking, What would I love?

Keep trusting the quiet guidance within.

Keep remembering that our limited view does not limit what Life is doing.

We do not need to see the full picture to participate in it.

We only need to remain willing.

When You Cannot See the Whole Picture

Maybe there is something in your life right now that does not make sense.

A thread you do not understand.

A season that feels unclear.

A crossing of colors you never would have chosen.

A little patch of life that looks far too zoomed in to mean anything beautiful at all.

What if you did not rush to judge it?

What if you did not decide too quickly that the story was broken?

What if you simply allowed for the possibility that there is more here than you can currently see?

That there is a larger picture.

That it is beautiful.

That it is still being woven.

That the Grand Weaver sees the whole of it, even when you can only see a tiny part.

We are not meant to hold the whole tapestry in our minds all at once.

We are meant to live it, thread by thread, moment by moment, trusting that something greater is being created than what we can currently perceive.

So if today all you can see is one little fragment, let that be enough.

Breathe.

Take the next step.

And trust the Weaver.

There is a bigger picture.

It is beautiful.

And even now, it is still being woven.
